Time is my Maker
This handmade quilt is a representation of my ideology regarding life and its impact on us. Although we all have our own individuality, what happens to us, our experiences are what creates our personhood and sculpt our soul. I looked through old family albums and found 120 pictures from my life and the lives of my family. The culmination of the photos make up a pixilated picture of my face, representing the fact that we are both literally and figuratively made up by are experiences. The depth of this pieces mirrors the depth of people in general. At first all you see is someone’s physical appearance but when you look closer there is so much more.

Process
Using Adobe Photoshop, I arranged the found images into a composition of my face. I edited each image to be one of the five different shades, Once the shades were determined I printed the image onto fabric, then sewing it together with a black cloth. I then hand embroidered a quote on the back that is representative of the meaning behind the work. The images (experiences) are within the broader composition of my outside appearance, as our memories gather within us, stitching together the fabric of our being.
